Basement and Attic Design/Remodeling

Make the most of an existing floor plan by utilizing hidden space correctly.

Most families find that at some point they need more room than their house can provide. When this happens you have a couple of options, one is to move to a bigger house. Another option is to take advantage of the unused space in your house. The basement and the attic are not used in most houses and that makes it wasted space that can be used if necessary. One of the great things about remodeling your basement or an attic is that since you are starting with an empty space you can turn them into anything that you want to.

Of course it also means that there will be more work involved than there would be if you wanted to just change the look of a room you do have a lot more freedom. The other great thing about these areas is that they allow you to increase the living area in your house which makes the work that you do on them well worth it. The first thing that you are going to have to do when you remodel your basement or attic is to decide what you are going to do with them. This is more important with the basement as the attic is almost always turned into a bedroom.

The basement however because you have so much more space to work with can be turned into almost anything and in most cases this will mean multiple rooms. Therefore one of the decisions that will have to be made is whether you are going to do the whole thing or whether or you are going to just do part of the basement.

Our proud PHX Interior Design and PHX Interior Design - Scottsdale team can show you the steps on how to properly use a clutted basement or attic space.

Reveal Hidden Basement & Attic Space

At the simplest level you can turn your basement and attic into useable space simply by putting up some drywall and laying some carpet. Of course there are lots of other things that you can do as well. Therefore you are going to have to make a decision about the budget that you are prepared to spend on these areas. If you want to go all out you can end up spending a lot of money on these areas.

One thing that you should really consider doing if you are going to renovate the basement or the attic is to put a bathroom in. This will be particularly important if you are turning the space into a bedroom. Without the bathroom the people using the space are going to have go a long way when they need to go. Obviously putting in a bathroom is a major job, the good news however is that since the areas are likely going to be unfinished when you start it will be a lot easier to put one in than it would be if you were renovating a room that was already finished.
